History & Values

Our story started with some Odd Fellows.

Saratoga Retirement Community is owned by the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and Rebekahs (IOOF), one of the oldest fraternal orders in the world. For over two centuries, IOOF Members have dedicated themselves to providing care and support to those in need.

Our story began with the Odd Fellows Home of California, which was established in Thermalito, California, and has been providing quality housing for seniors since 1893. In 1912, the Odd Fellows moved their home from Thermalito to Saratoga, where our expert staff has been doing what we do best ever since.

Inspired by the IOOF, we feel strongly about serving others, and you’ll see that in every aspect of the lifestyle: the living spaces, the healthcare, the activities that bring our whole community closer together.

In 1999, we came under the executive management of PRS Management, Inc. This led to great improvements as we were able to expand the campus, completely renovating the historic Saratoga Manor building, adding more apartment homes and cottages, and constructing a fireside lounge and bar, Fitness Center, indoor pool, bocce court, and other resort-style amenities.

In 2005, the historic 1912 Saratoga Manor building was presented with the Gold Nugget Award for Best Adaptive Re-Use Project. The oldest and largest program of its kind, Gold Nugget Awards honor creative achievements in architectural design and land-use planning for residential, commercial, and industrial projects. Entries come from 14 western states and all countries bordering the Pacific Ocean.

About the IOOF.

The Independent Order of Odd Fellows has a long history of serving others, rooted in the core values of Friendship, Love, and Truth. Though Saratoga is owned by the IOOF, one does not need to be a Member of the Order to live there. The Odd Fellows welcomes everyone to enjoy the Saratoga lifestyle.

As part of our commitment to service, the California IOOF owns and operates two outstanding retirement communities: The Meadows of Napa Valley and Saratoga Retirement Community. While these communities are affiliated with the IOOF, membership in our Order is not required for residency. We welcome individuals from all walks of life to experience the retirement lifestyle offered at our communities.
